Cat Pain Relief Treatments
The many types of cat pain relief treatments available today are primarily natural methods of alleviating pain. This is because of the sensitivity of cats with regards to pain killers. Any pain killers in the smallest amounts can be fatal to cats. This is why many people are trying out different natural methods and cat pain relief treatments.
So which natural methods are the most effective and the least costly? We have rated the following cat pain relief treatments to give you a good idea on the best natural home treatment for your cat.
Acupuncture – 5/10
Acupuncture is a well used natural pain relief treatment in humans, dogs and cats. However, it loses ratings from our point of view because it can be very costly and time consuming. Acupuncture treatments will need to be topped up and the process takes a couple of hours to complete.
Magnetic Collars or Magnetic Pads – 8/10
The use of magnetic fields in the efforts of pain relief has increased dramatically and collars and pads are now available for your pets too. There have been numerous testimonials from cat owners who have noticed the incredible change in their cat once they begin to wear a magnetic collar or sleep on a magnetic pad. We have given this treatment the mark eight, because although it is fantastic as a pain relief treatment for many cats, it does cost a little money. Unlike Acupuncture treatment though, magnetic collars last for life once bought.
Supplements or Change in Diet – 8/10
Another great way to help your cat heal quickly or help alleviate long term pain like arthritis is to change their diet or provide supplements recommended by your vet. There are many specifically produced food stuffs for cats out there that target certain deficiencies such as the nutrients that help aid healing and promote healthy joints and muscles. This diet change may cost a little extra and may not always be suitable for some situations so we gave this method an eight as well although generally speaking a well balanced diet is essential for your cat’s good health.
Warmed Towels or Wheat Bags – 7/10
Lining your cat’s bed with warm towels, blankets or a warmed wheat bag is a good way of ensuring your cat not only gets a good night’s rest but helps ease some of their pain too. It’s not an expensive method of pain relief and if it is just warm towels you only need to pop some in the dryer for a few minutes to do the trick. This is something that helps in general but is not immediate pain relief so we gave this one a slightly lower mark.
Massage – 7/10
For pets with long term pains, joint problems and stiff muscles, massage is an excellent option from our cat pain relief treatments. Massage is not beneficial for every type of pain and is usually only practiced for cats and other pets with arthritis so we gave this one a slightly lower score.
