Cat Illness Symptoms

Cat illness symptoms will vary depending on the condition the cat has, and symptoms can also indicate a variety of illnesses or conditions depending on what they are. Many symptoms are typical of more than one condition so cat illness symptoms are not always a clear indication of a particular disease or ailment your cat could be suffering.

If you notice anything unusual in your cat or if you’re in doubt about its health or behavior, make an appointment with your vet as soon as you can.  Your cat will develop ailments and conditions just like we do, but they will not be able to tell you what is going on or how they are feeling. It is up to us to interpret the various signs and behavioral changes our cat will show when they aren’t feeling well or if there is something wrong.

Even domesticated cats are still tuned in to the typical behavior of their wild feline counterparts. In the wild, it is beneficial for the cat to hide weaknesses and illness, and even cats that have been domestic their whole lives, have strong instincts to hide their conditions. Cats are particularly good at hiding pain and discomfort and will do so as much as possible.

Before introducing you to a list of all the main cat illness symptoms please be aware that usually one symptom does not constitute a sick cat, it is normally a mixture of the symptoms or at least two. If your cat is displaying two or more symptoms, please make an appointment with your vet, do not rely on self diagnosis this can be particularly dangerous if your pet is misdiagnosed and too much, too little or the wrong kind of medication or treatment is given (See Pain Relief for Cats Baby Tylenol

). This does not mean if you only notice one symptom that your cat is fine. Many people find that once they notice one symptom, they will start to notice others they did not see before. Regardless of this, if you notice a single symptom only such as blood in urine it is evident that there is something wrong and your cat need sot see a vet as soon as possible.

General cat illness symptoms are as follows:

·        Vomiting

·        Diarrhea

·        Weight Loss

·        Urinal Accidents

·        Excessive Thirst

·        Depression

·        Constipation

·        Hair Loss

·        Sneezing/Coughing

·        Fever

·        Skin Problems

·        Discharge of the eyes, ears or nose.

It will be very difficult to notice most ailments such as toilet changes as you may not be in a position to notice these. Cats with litter trays will make it easier for their owners to spot changes than cats that go outside for their toilet needs. This will obviously make it much harder for the owner to spot these vital symptom clues. Problems such as hair loss, weight loss and sneezing or coughing should be much more easily detected whether it’s a household cat or a wanderer.
