Cat “Tender Loving Care”
We all love our feline friends and no one wants the worst to happen to them. Unfortunately, no matter how protective we are of our cats we can’t stop them getting ill sometimes. With this in mind we hope to ease your worries and fears and provide some useful information on what to watch out for. You can also practice some regular checks in your routine. It is a good idea to quickly check over your cat every so often when they take a moment to cuddle you (or preside over the room) on your lap. You can have a quick look at their eyes, nose and ears for signs of discharge or infection, their fur for signs of matting or fleas and their skin and claws for signs of irritation and deformity. There are vaccinations available for many common cat diseases which you should talk to your vet about to see if your cat is due for a vaccination or top up.
Trust the Vet
As with all pets we recommend that you make an appointment with your vet if your cat is displaying any of the symptoms mentioned in these articles. Do not try to diagnose your cat yourself. We can only give you a rough idea of what may be causing your cat problems, but many symptoms can be caused by a variety of different diseases and conditions which will not be easily determinable from each other. Only your vet will be able to accurately diagnose your cat and therefore provide the treatment your cat needs.
Misdiagnosis can lead to an unchecked condition or the wrong treatment provided. This is potentially fatal to your cat and if not can leave them in a very serious condition. Your cat is unable to tell you what is wrong and how they are feeling, so it is up to you to spot their symptoms and give them the help they need by taking them to a veterinary clinic and ensuring they get medical treatment.
Never try to medicate your cat without expert veterinary advice and monitoring. Many people often mistakenly believe that human or dog medicine can be given to cats if in a smaller dose or if it’s a child remedy. Never give your cat medication not specifically prescribed for them. For more information on this visit our Pain Relief for Cats – Baby Tylenol page.
